To see if Tanzania may appeal to you, I am going to go through a few of the attractions on offer in this beautiful and amazing East African country to give you a greater idea of what you can expect if you are planning on visiting the country, and what you are missing out on if you are not.
Tanzania is extremely rich in culture, and whilst on safari in places such as the Ngorongoro Crater, you will have the opportunity to see and get closer to nomadic tribes people the Masai. There may even be an opportunity to take a tour of a Masai village and see how this tribe lives and has lived for countless years without change.
There is plenty of room for adventure in Tanzania, with mountains such as Mount Meru and of course the world’s largest freestanding mountain Kilimanjaro being favourite trekking and hiking spots for the adventurous travellers and adrenaline junkies. You can also take on other adventurous sports such as wind surfing on coastal regions, big game fishing in the Indian Ocean and even plain old sailing in traditional wooden dhows or more modern boats depending on preference.
The greatest National Parks and Game Reserves in the entire world are located in Tanzania, and they contain some of the most amazing and rarest animals on earth, including the rhinoceros, lion, leopard, hippopotamus and the African wild dog. The most famous park is the world the Serengeti is by far Tanzania’s most popular safari attraction, with thousands of people journeying from all over the world to see it each year. There are countless activities you can do whilst in the parks, including boating safaris, hot air balloon trips and nature walks. You can also visit Selous Game Reserve which is located in Southern Tanzania and is the largest wildlife reserve in the world, reportedly being larger than the size of countries such as Belgium. Tarangire National Park is another one to visit – this park has a huge population of elephants and also Baobab trees – the largest of both flora and fauna together in one park!
Tanzania has some of the most breath taking scenic locations on the globe within its country boundaries, including the largest fresh water lake in the world Lake Victoria – where you can go on activity days such as boating trips and fishing trips with the local fishermen of the lake, the volcanic caldera with a panoramic view the Ngorongoro Crater – which you can drive up to the rim of to see the view and even proceed to the crater floor to get a look at the wildlife which resides there and the paradise island of Zanzibar – which is one the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world and is perfect for chill out and relaxing holidays, in fact many people often combine safari holidays with trips to Zanzibar in an aptly named ‘bush and beach’ safari package.
