Tips for Traveling to Italy

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

By Adrianna Noton

for a lifetime. Italy boasts a nice mix of old world and new world architecture and culture, and is a rich source of history and natural sights. Just like traveling to any foreign country, it’s wise to observe some specific tips when traveling to Italy. Since an Italian vacation isn’t likely to come around very often, you’ll want to make the most of yours, without having to worry about any glitches along the way.

If you want to find the most reasonable prices for your Italian vacation, it may be a good idea to plan to go away from the peak tourist season. June to September is usually the busiest time in Italy as far as tourists go, so planning Tuscany tours or Sicily tours between April and May or September and November may get you the best prices. The line ups will also be shorter for all the main attractions of Tuscany vacations, Sicily vacations and others, and the weather should still be mild. Since you’re traveling to another country, it’s always a good idea to take out travel insurance in case any problems come up. Before you go on your Italian trip, check to make sure your passport is valid for the length of time you’re going to be gone. Ask your travel agent how you should pack for your vacation, as it may vary slightly depending on where you’re going.

Before you leave for your Tuscany vacation or Sicily vacation, get some Euros so you can pay for taxis and other services that won’t take American or Canadian money. Work out your hotel details as part of your Tuscany vacation packages or Sicily vacation packages before you leave. It’s also not a bad idea to learn a little Italian or at least bring along a translation dictionary so you can get by easier. If you live in the US, where the metric system isn’t used, you may want to get a handle on how far certain distances or measurements are, just to make it easier while you’re in Italy. You’ll be dealing in liters of wine, meters and kilometers while on your Tuscany tours and Sicily tours.

Your Tuscany vacation package, Sicily vacation package, or Sicily tours may have your itinerary all laid out for you, but if it doesn’t, there are a few different ways to travel around while you’re in Italy. You can travel by car, train, bus or even bicycle if you’re just traveling locally. If you want to venture away from Italy, you can catch a ferry to countries including France, Greece and Turkey.

As with most foreign vacations, it’s best to guard your credit cards, passports and other valuables against pickpockets while it Italy. Don’t wander around the towns and villages with your valuables in a shoulder bag or anything else that someone can reach into easily. Italy is a safe country, so use common sense and you’ll be fine.

With incredible Sicily vacations for every budget, book your trip today.

Some Things to Consider When Doing Your Online Shopping

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

The online shopping market really has exploded in recent years as people try to take advantage of the various savings that can be made along with the fact that they have less spare time with which to go out shopping in the traditional method. You are able to buy virtually everything that you need online now but you do still have to be careful so here are a few tips on what to look out for.

To start off with you should know that there are a number of fake items out there especially those items which are known to sell well around the world. It is therefore always a good idea to just buy from a reputable source which is either a big name or one you have been able to check out.

You can check companies out by reading comments or reviews that are posted around the internet and you just have to do a simple search for them. This shall let you build up a picture as to who you should perhaps use and who is best to avoid.

As you are looking at their website do pay attention to their returns policy and do this before you order. You know when you buy from a shop if something is wrong you can take it back so it should be no different buying on the internet. This information should be easy to find but if it is not then you need to contact them direct.

By rights you should have at least two ways to contact a company as it does show they are taking their customer service quite seriously. If they only have an email then you may find it harder to get in touch with them as you are just hoping the email gets there and that they reply whereas by telephone you are talking to a human.

You also need to be careful about delivery charges as you may think you are getting a great price but when it comes down to adding in the postage that price is suddenly not as good. You should also know how long things are going to take to get to you as if it is going to take a very long time then you might start to feel it is going to inconvenience you.

If you are looking at online shopping then you should try and take advantage of the price comparison websites that are out there as this can really help you to save some money. It shall take you to prices for the same product from a number of companies and some also have space for people to submit reviews and this can really help you in picking a product.

Finally do also look out for any promotional codes that you can enter at the checkout to get a better deal. These can be from free shipping to money off but do make sure you check the dates when codes are valid for as some may be for only a single day whilst others are longer.

Las Vegas Vacation Tips

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

With world class dining, entertainment, shopping and attractions, Sin City is at the top of almost everyone’s travel list.

Whether you plan to stay for a week or a weekend, make sure you have your trip planned well before you touch down in Nevada with some great tips.

Take some time to talk with your fellow travelers and come up with a tentative itinerary that you can all agree on to make the trip one to remember.

You first order of business should be booking a hotel room. Keep in mind staying Sunday through Thursday will be less expensive than the weekend, so if your time permits you can plan accordingly. Booking at least 30 das in advanced will probably get you a better deal. Once you’ve found your hotel room you can start looking into flight deals. There are a variety of discount airlines that fly daily to Vegas from most large cities, and if you don’t mind stopovers you can probably save on your airfare.

Once you arrive in Vegas there are several options for getting to your hotel. Shuttle buses are the cheapest bed, averaging $5 to $7 per person, but be aware that it could take up to an hour until you finally arrive at your stop. A taxi or limousine on the other hand will run from about $15 to $65. Public transportation is also available in the form of monorail lines, bus and trolley service which are a prefect way to get around on the cheap.

You can also stay entertained for free in Vegas with a number of attractions like the fountains of Bellagio, the volcano at the Mirage, lions at MGM and a free circus performance at Circus Circus.

While you’re spending your time taking in the fun of the Vegas strip, make sure you keep a few things with you. The sun is quite strong in Nevada so be sure to pack a good pair of sunglasses no matter what time of the year you are visiting. The strong desert sun is also known to dehydrate tourists, so be sure to drink lots of water. Hotels and casinos will take advantage of thirsty travelers with expensive water bottles, but if you stock up at a drugstore and keep the bottles in your hotel room you can avoid inflated prices. Comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen are also a good idea any time of the year. Don’t forget you are in the middle of the Mohave Desert after all!

Above all else have a budget before you leave. Las Vegas is full of incredible things to see and do, but you won’t want to come back regretting all of your frivolous spending. Take into consideration the amount of days you will be there to ensure you will have enough to cover all of your meals, transportation, as well as budgeting in whatever forms of entertainment you will be taking advantage of while on vacation. Decide what you are willing to spend the most money on during your stay and then budget all of your other necessities accordingly.

Then get ready for an unforgettable stay in Sin City.
Viva Las Vegas!

Three Great Travel Spots On A Tight Budget

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

By John Markus

Want to see some great sights but keep costs under control? We have scoped out some great destinations that are very affordable in the current economic climate (end of 2011).

Atlantic Canada

The provinces of Canada that are on the East Coast of the country have tons of activities for people who love the outdoors. We are big fans of the kayak rides you can take around the Island of Prince Edward. We also like to do watching of whales near Fundy Bay. You also can try a fantastic hike in the wilderness in the region of the Tomgat Mountains, where you can often see glaciers in the distance.

In 2012 however, the biggest reason to visit this area is the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, which occurred in 1912 off of Newfoundland. This year there is a full slate of events scheduled in Halifax that mark the 100th anniversary of this terrible event. There will be a parade, a film festival and many concerts. Halifax is one of the cheapest places to stay in Canada, with an average hotel price of $140 per night.

Belize

Belize does not get the press of Mexico and Costa Rica, or even Guatemala for that matter. In 2010, twice as many people went to Costa Rica as Belize. Still, Belize has lots of great things about it and you should give it a whirl. First of all, people speak English here. Also, you can see many amazing birds, the incredible Mayan ruins, and also the 2nd biggest barrier reef on earth. Belize is also very cheap to travel to these days.

The best time to visit Belize we think is in May; it is warm enough for the beaches but you are not in the high season yet. You should not stay in San Pedro as the prices are quite a bit higher now. We like the Placencia Peninsula. It is not as touristy and there are wonderful lagoons and many miles of sandy beaches without a lot of people. You also can see the amazing jaguar preserve, which is the first of its kind on earth. The Maya Beach Hotel is owned by an American and Australian couple and the prices are very good at around $85 per night.

San Antonio

This is the 7th biggest city in the US; bet you didn’t know that did you? There is a huge amount of construction going on in this bustling Texas town. There are many more miles of walking and bike paths and also many news cafes and shops.

You now can rent a bike almost anywhere in the city for $10 per day. Rates for rooms are 4% less than 2010 so you can really get some good prices these days. We recommend coming here in September. It is hotter than the popular months of April and May, but there are less crowds.

We hope that you can take advantage of some of these great destinations on a low budget this year!

How to Choose a West Rim or South Rim Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

If you want to take a Grand Canyon helicopter tour, you must choose between the West Rim and the South Rim. It’s a tough decision because both are stunning. Here’s a breakdown of the rims that will make the choice easier:

The West Rim

The West Rim is 120 miles west of Las Vegas on Hualapai Indian tribal lands. It takes a helicopter 45 minutes to get there, making it a great day trip for those who are tight on time and can only spare half a day. It’s also well-known for this: The Grand Canyon Skywalk and helicopter tours that land at the bottom.

Forty-four imported glass panels costing $250,000 each comprise the deck of the Skywalk. This glass deck extends 70 feet past the edge and suspends you 4,000 feet above the Colorado River. An engineering marvel, the bridge is able to withstand magnitude 8 earthquakes and winds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Cameras and other personal electronics are prohibited; photographers are available to take your picture. Tip: Make sure the Skywalk is bundled into your helicopter package at time of purchase. It’s cheaper.

The helicopter ride to the bottom is intense. The descent is 15-minutes long and puts you in direct contact with the canyon’s steep cliffs and twisted rock formations. Some of the oldest exposed parts of the Earth’s crust is at the canyon, representing four eras of geological time. Helicopters land on private landing pads. Here, you’ll deplane and enjoy a Champagne toast under an authentic Indian Ramada. After that, go and check out the surrounding area and the nearby Colorado River.

The market for West Rim helicopter tours is competitive – shop for best prices. If you book using the Internet, expect to save up to 40 percent. Total round-trip time is four hours and includes hotel pick up and drop off and lunch. There are more activities that you can add to your trip, like horseback riding, kayaking, Hummer 4×4 tours, and ATV trail riding. Total trip time four hours. Packages start between $235 and $335.

The South Rim

All helicopter flights originate from Grand Canyon Airport in Tusayan, a town 10 minutes from the Park’s main entrance. The drive from Phoenix and Sedona is two and four hours, respectively. From Las Vegas, you must book an air-ground package, which is done aboard a fixed-wing Vistaliner aircraft and takes 45 minutes.

Upon arriving at the rim, you’ll transfer to a helicopter and head out over the Kaibab Plateau until you reach the Dragoon Corridor, the widest, deepest section of the canyon. Other landmarks include Temple Butte, the Zuni Corridor, the North Rim, and the Painted Desert. The Las Vegas package also includes ground transfer to the South Rim, where you’ll spend several hours exploring the national park, including the restaurants and gift shops at Grand Canyon Village.

The South Rim is where the most famous pictures and images of the canyon are shot. Helicopter tours last up to 40 minutes. Total Las Vegas trip time, including helicopter flight and bus transfer to Grand Canyon Village, is six hours, and includes hotel pick up and drop off and lunch. Helicopter flights to the South Rim start at $135 per person. The Las Vegas package starts at $360 per person.

Summary

Deciding between the West Rim and the South Rim is the first thing you need to do before booking a Grand Canyon helicopter tour. The West Rim is packed with things to do, and it’s close to Las Vegas. The South Rim boasts the best viewpoints, hiking trails, and guest amenities. The three top tour operators – Papillon, Maverick, and Sundance – offer helicopter and air-helicopter-ground trips to both rims, ranging in price from $135 per person to $360 per person. For the best deals, always book online. Now, with this information in hand, you are cleared for take off.

A Pleasure Craft Can Be the Recreation Investment For Almost Anyone

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Water sports are enjoyed by almost everyone and there are few experiences that compare to taking a boat out upon a lake for skiing, fishing, or simply enjoying the wind rushing by and the water spray. The pleasure craft is for many people an essential part of the summer’s recreation and enjoyable by the entire family. This type of sporting activity doesn’t require a huge investment as boats can be as large or small as the budget and the purpose dictate.

While a yacht might be nice for open water and desired by many, the largest boat for leisure activities is not always the best suited for the particular sport or purpose. A small boat with a trolling motor is all that many avid fisherman want or need. The quiet motor and low hull allow them to get in close to the shore and fish without frightening their quarry away.

However, no matter the size of the boat or the purpose there are certain boating laws governing the operation of these craft. Most operators are required to have taken boating safety courses and to have a craft operator card. A boating license is required in most states and is a statement that the operator understands the rules and regulations governing the operation of their craft.

The popularity of boating for leisure has increased and with more recreational boats on the waterways it is more important than ever that the operators be competent and conversant with all laws. Different types of boats require different licensing and competencies but the most common is the pleasure craft boat license.

Boat safety is taken very seriously by most boaters and competency licenses help assure that the boater is up to date on the latest in regulations as well as basic safety measures. A competent craft operator should know many basic safety facts. Knowing how many life vests are required in a leisure boat, who has the right of way at any time and how many people their boat can carry are just a few of the obligations of a boat operator.

Boating laws are important to safety and the regulations may vary from closed lakes to sea going vessels. Classes which teach boat safety and give licenses are important so that the pleasure craft operator emerges knowing what rules govern their craft in almost any situation. The license is merely proof they have taken the classes and passed the competency tests.

People can invest many thousands of dollars in their recreation, this is particularly true of boats used for leisure and sports. They feel the investment is well worth it. However, as valuable as the dollars spent on the craft, is the time spent learning the boat laws and acquiring a boating license.

Whether enjoying the waterways inland, or experiencing the thrill of the open water the competent boat operator can assure that both they and their passengers arrive home safely. Pleasure craft provide leisure time opportunities and a sport that can be enjoyed whether they are young or old. It only makes sense to assure that the operator has all the skills and knowledge possible and a license as well.

Author Bio: Getting a boating license is now quick and easy, simply register for a boat test, sit the online Boater exam and away you go.

Travel and Leisure-Everybody Needs a Little Time For Themselves

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Work is necessary. However, once in a while a person should also learn how to value one’s self and give in to its wants and cravings. If the body reaches the point where doing the daily routines becomes almost impossible to bear, it is an indication that one should at least take the week off and go somewhere far from the responsibilities placed on one’s shoulders. Some would regard this as a selfish act, leaving everything behind to relax and unwind. But take note, a tired soul is never effective when it comes to working because at the end of the day, he or she will just be working for everybody’s sake. The goal is not to produce quality product but produce only.

Resting once in a while especially if the body asks to is not a sin. Wherever the vacation may take place-safari holidays, beach resorts, spas and salons or even at the comfort of one’s house-it doesn’t matter. The point is, the body, the mind and the soul have a short time for themselves only.

Travel and leisure, although a bit expensive, is recommended to those who have worked almost all their life forgetting about their own happiness. This will be more than worth it though because after a week long vacation in one of the breathtaking safari holidays, the person can feel renewed and ready to work again.

There are other options aside of course from the safari holidays in South Africa. There is a wide variety to chose from when your goal is to travel and find leisure. Sports can be a good alternative as well since they energize your worn-out muscles. With travel though, you get the chance to see unfamiliar places and persons so you would feel like a new person. There are also other forms of leisure in different places, so it is like hitting two lions with one shot.

If the goal is to be one with nature and to reflect on things, certainly, those places near to Mother Nature is most suggested. An accommodation near the mountains, rivers, beach or the most wanted safari holidays would be of great help merely because you get the chance of seeing face to face the wildest creatures in the wild.

Travelling may not be your main activity. If that is so, going shopping may be the right one for you then. No need to exceed your credit card limit. Just a little upgrade in your wardrobe and a few things that would make you feel relax is what you need. New make ups for the females, or a new necktie for the males can change a lot.

You may choose to stay in your house instead of going out to spend thousands of dollars. But it is not a big deal. Bake cookies and breads to take your mind away from your responsibilities. Do the garden if you want or stay in your room for a beauty rest.

We are working very hard to earn money. But then what is the use of all the wealth if we can’t even give in to our want to experience safari holidays even for once. We deserve this. And depriving ourselves with the right for travel and leisure may not be a good idea. Think about it.

Author Bio: Charles Leigh Moore enjoys writing for Vuyanilodge.com which offers safari holidays and safari in south africa as well as a host of additional services.
