Seven Holiday Planning Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

It’s the trip you’ve been waiting to take. The trip of a lifetime. The trip that can also go terribly wrong if you don’t do one thing: plan. That one act, however time-consuming it may be, can mean the difference between a trip you’ll describe to your grand kids as one of the best ever or always dreading the thought of it.

There are so many steps to the planning process it might help to fill your head with the excitement and wonderment of how great it will be. That will carry you through the scanning of numerous web pages and/or appointments with a travel agent. Here are five common mistakes people make when planning their travels:

1. Not Having A Travel Budget.

It sounds obvious, but it’s a good idea to make all of your choices based on your budget. Do you have a budget? If not, make one and be sure to figure in spending money. No one wants to regret running out of money or spending too much and having to make up for it for months to come.

2. Not Booking Plane Tickets, Car Rental And Hotels As A Combo Package.

You’ll need plane tickets, but do you need a hotel or car rental? Booking those all together can save some dough. Don’t buy from the first site that seems like a good deal. It’s your best bet to look around. What days are you going? Are you flexible? What about flight times? Flexibility on dates and times can save money. It might mean leaving a day earlier, staying a day longer. It may mean getting up before the rooster, but again, it can really spell savings. If not, the answer to that savings is checking multiple sites. A travel agent can be a very good tool for that. Also, consider the number of stops on the flight. Are you willing to change planes or endure a long layover?

3. Choosing The First Available Hotel

Picking a hotel is very vital to happiness on holiday. Don’t click “purchase” without checking different hotel ratings, reviews, and definitely pictures. Also, check where the hotel is. Is it near tourist sites, shopping, restaurants, the beach, or maybe just away from everything?

4. Not Taking Out Travel Insurance

Depending on the destination and time of year, travel insurance could be the way to go. If the trip is to Mexico during hurricane season, get travel insurance. It may cost a little bit extra, but if the trip is cancelled or interrupted, it can provide at least some reimbursement. A travel agent could also be helpful with that.

5. Not Planning An Itinerary.

It doesn’t have to be in-depth, but jot down some sites to see, restaurants to enjoy, and/or shops to browse. Check the internet for ideas that will suit the type of vacation you want. Sometimes, it’s a good idea to go ahead and make a dinner reservation or two or, in the case of Disney World, maybe your family should purchase a meal plan when booking everything else. Also, don’t try to cram too much into the trip. It’s a holiday and it should feel like one, not a day at work.

6. Waiting Till The Last Minute To Request A Passport

Going overseas? Get your passport in time. Don’t forget or procrastinate because that can make a person forget and then it could cost extra to rush it. Also, money might need to be converted or a voltage converter bought. It’s no fun to have to go buy a converter with undone hair and realize you don’t have the right cash to buy it.

7. Not Having A List Of Things To Pack.

Lastly, when it’s time to pack, make a list. It will help ensure nothing is forgotten and everything is there when needed. Keep smaller items in mind such as cellphone chargers and cameras, or anything you might not think of while packing your bags.

Now, go and have a fun, worry-free holiday!

Carry a Pleasure Craft Operator Card

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

A pleasure craft operator card or boating license is required in many areas in order to legally operate a watercraft in lakes. Boating is an activity that is growing in popularity each year but as the number of boats increase the number of boat accidents also increase. Many government agencies have instituted licensing requirements that are intended to decrease boat accident numbers.

Boat operators are required by law to pass a test after sitting through a class on boating laws and safety. The course is offered on line for people who would rather not sit through a course in a classroom. The course has to be accredited by the local transportation authority in order for people to be able to sit for the test.

Once the test taker passes the exam he will be issued a boating license by the local watercraft licensing board. The license holder will then be allowed to legally operate a watercraft in that particular area where the licensing board has authority. The license must be available for presentation to any law enforcement authority upon request when the license holder is operating a watercraft.

The licensing course includes information on watercraft safety. Students will learn rules regarding right of way and vessel separation. Students will learn about boating speeds, local rules regarding accident regulations, and how to navigate safely in local lakes. Small vessel regulations vary from area to area and students need to know which regulations apply in the area they plan to operate their boat.

Some regulations require boaters to stop and give assistance to other boaters who need help if it is safe for the boater to do so without harming his own craft. If the boater is involved in an accident he is required by law to stop and help other involved watercraft operators and if he does not he is guilty of a criminal offense. These regulations are in place in order to make the water a safer boating area for all boaters.

There are many ways to enjoy the lakes on a boat. Some people enjoy fishing. Some people love to water ski. Others simply enjoy taking a relaxing ride on the water. No matter how people enjoy their boat on the lake it is important that everyone abide by the same boating safety rules so that everyone can have a fun and safe day out on the lake.

The licensing requirements are in place to ensure boating safety. People who have licenses are aware of safety rules and are less likely to be involved in an accident on the water. Law enforcement enforces boating regulations in order to reduce the number of accidents on the lake.

The pleasure operator card is also called a boating license and people who operate a watercraft are required to have an operator’s license. People can take a boat safety class which prepares them to pass a government administered test. Once he or she passes the test he or she will be issued her boating license and will be able to operate a boat on the lake.

Author Bio: Getting a boating license and learning boating safety is now quick and easy, simply register for a boating course, then the online boating Exam and away you go.
