Argentina is a culturally rich, diverse country with much to offer the traveller. The following summary gives an insight into the country’s best highlights.
As far as history and culture goes, Argentina is diverse and rich. Buenos Aires is a good focal point if tourists are to begin their trips from here. Tango, art, cafés, shopping, museums, parks, restaurants; there is a lot on offer. The famous area of La Boca is very popular as well as the area of La Recoleta. Here you will find museums, parks and a well -known cemetery.
Argentina is an easy country to travel in with public transport routes criss-crossing the country. To the north of Argentina lie Iguazu Falls, one of the world’s biggest waterfalls. The falls form the border between Brazil and Argentina and on the Argentinean side it is possible to get up close to the falls and even walk under some parts. You can see the waterfalls in a panoramic view by heading to Brazil and see a different side of the natural wonder.
Heading west from Buenos Aires many travellers head to Mendoza to go wine tasting. Touring the vineyards on your own is possible and much of the city offers places to hire bikes from. Remember you still have to cycle back though!
To the south of Argentina lies Patagonia. Bariloche is the gateway to Patagonia and a worthwhile stop. Walk around the lakes or hire a bicycle and take a trip through the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The magnificent views through the forest and lakes and the scenery is possible to see in one day if you try a 50km circuit. In Bariloche it is also possible to organise white water rafting trips and, in winter, go skiing and snowboarding. You can go to El Calafate by continuing south from Bariloche and enjoy climbing and hiking in the national park before heading to the glacier at El Perrito Moreno – the largest non polar glacier in the world and one that isn’t retreating unlike many others. Walk on the boardwalks for panoramic views or take a guided trek on the glacier to get up and close or even take a boat ride up to it. Round your trip of by visiting the world’s southern most city, Ushuaia. Nicknamed ‘the end of the world’ it makes for an interesting story to tell your friends. Here you can hike in the national park or ski and snowboard in winter.
